Security guard shot by robbers

TANGERANG: A security guard at the Regency Melati housing complex in Serpong, Tangerang, was shot Tuesday as he tried to stop a gang of robbers from getting away.
The guard, identified as Mas'ud, chased after the robbers, who were in a black Kijang van, on his motorcycle.
Mas'ud was shot in the arm.
Quoting some witnesses, Serpong Police chief Adj. Comr. Susatyo Chandra Purnomo said the Kijang van had pulled up in front of a vacant house, owned by Iwan Setiawan, in the early hours of Tuesday.
""Five men got out of the car and walked back and forth in front of the house, arousing suspicion,"" he said.
Neighbors alerted the complex's security guards.
""Mas'ud approached the men who hurriedly left the scene. His instincts told him to follow them, but he was shot,"" Susatyo said. --JP
