JAKARTA: A woman missed her own meticulously planned birthday bash on Wednesday evening, after picking the wrong taxi to go from her office in Kuningan, South Jakarta, to the party at a Central Jakarta hotel.
The taxi driver stopped near Dukuh Atas in Central Jakarta, using the excuse of a flat tire.
Two men got into the taxi. The one who sat beside her on the backseat threatened her with a knife.
The robbers, who frequently talked through a cellular phone with someone they called ""boss"", took her two cellular phones, a ring and US$300 in cash and forced her to withdraw Rp 5 million ($531) from a nearby automatic teller machine.
They dropped her near the Jakarta Fairground in Kemayoran and gave her Rp 150,000 to get home, warning her not to talk to police or reporters.
""They didn't take my phone cards but they have my address from my ID card,"" Nurmawati said after filing a report with the city police. -- JP
