JAKARTA: Yasuo Fukuda, a favorite to succeed Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi in three months' time, will pay a three-day private visit to Indonesia this week.
Indonesia-Japan Friendship Association (PPIJ) chairman Rachmat Gobel said here Monday that Fukuda was scheduled to arrive in Jakarta on Thursday.
During his stay in Jakarta, Fukuda will meet President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Vice President Jusuf Kalla and leaders of the House of Representatives and Regional Representatives Council.
Fukuda also plans to visit quake-affected areas in Yogyakarta and Central Java. He will deliver the keynote address at a seminar on Indonesia-Japan synergy in Yogyakarta on June 24.
""It is not a political visit, although it will be unavoidable that he will discuss the two countries' economic ties,"" Gobel said, adding that Indonesia has enjoyed good economic ties with Japan for more than three decades. -- JP
