Robbers get away with musician's van

JAKARTA: Thieves broke into the house of jazz musician Kiboud Maulana and stole an Avanza van as his family slept early Saturday morning.

Four robbers reportedly entered the garage of Kiboud's house in Pejaten, South Jakarta, after breaking the front fence padlock.

A policeman patrolling the area at the time saw the robbers as they were leaving the crime scene and fired his rifle in an attempt to stop them, but was unsuccessful.

""The gunshot woke me up. The police claimed to have injured one of the robbers,"" Kiboud, the brother of musician Ireng Maulana, was reported by Kompas as saying Sunday.

The newspaper reported the robbers drove a silver Kijang van into the housing complex, which they entered after security guards opened the complex gates.

Kiboud reported the incident to Pasar Minggu police on Saturday. --JP
