JAKARTA: Women's FIDE Master (WFM) Irene Kharisma Sukandar of Indonesia lost in the fourth round to MFW Natasha Benmesbah (2137) of France, but bounced back in the fifth round to defeat Laura Fernandez (1962), also of France, at the Women's Grandmaster chess tournament in Marseille, France.
In the fourth round, Irene, whose elo rating is 2213, seemed to lose concentration during the six-hour game, committing a number of errors. ""It's very sad to play for six hours just to lose,"" she said.
After an hour's break, Irene bounced back for her fifth-round game, claiming victory in only 16 moves.
Irene now stands on 3.5 points. Benmesbah continues to lead the event, along with International Master Cristina Adela Foisor of Romania, on four points. -- JP
