Holidays -- why else would you go to school?

The arrival of the school holiday season always brings mixed feelings for Jakartans.

Students, of course, look forward to it as time of all fun, no study (except for those whose ambitious parents pack them off to English classes or math enrichment lessons), while parents may well be reaching for the aspirin to deal with the headache of planning an enjoyable yet affordable holiday for their offspring.

And, of course, for those with an eye for business, it's a boom season -- time to turn parental love into profits.

Skeptics would probably regard the explosion of activity at the city's malls and recreational parks as simply an example of the law of supply and demand.

Your average Jakartan child wouldn't be too surprised by that diagnosis. Of course, they'd say. We're on holidays. We demand to have fun!
