On Sept. 11 cartoon

With all due respect, I do not agree with Don Archer's comments about the Sept. 11 cartoon which appeared in The Jakarta Post on Sept. 11.

The cartoon showed tanks and helicopters exiting from the Twin Towers and Archer said it was disgraceful. In my humble opinion, it was just the cartoonist's expression of the fact that because of the tragic event (Twin Towers visual), U.S. President George W. Bush, as commander-in-chief, declared war on terror (tanks and helicopters visual). The cartoon was far from making any subjective judgment, but was just showing the plain facts that everyone knows.

On the other side, appearing on the anniversary of Sept. 11, the cartoon managed to remind us that the war on terror has been going on for five years now.

Paying tribute to the victims, we ought to see Sept. 11 and the developments after five years from the entire perspective.
