Thick haze blankets Jambi city again

Thick haze has blanketed Jambi city over the last two days, restricting visibility to between 500 meters and 1 kilometer.

Besides causing respiratory problems, the haze has also forced drivers to be more careful on the roads to avoid traffic accidents.

Suparman, a staff member of the Jambi Forest Fire Control Center, said Tuesday that due to the thick haze, hot spots which led to the spread of the haze could not be detected by the North Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) satellite.

Jambi Deputy Governor Antony Z Abidin said that despite the haze Jambi province was not the source of the haze.

Jambi has actually been free from haze since Sept. 17 this year following its success in extinguishing forest fires, which pre-viously covered 1,858 hectares. Forest fires currently cover 706 hectares in the province. - JP
