TANGERANG: The Customs and Excise Office at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport caught a passenger with 2,900 ecstasy pills in her luggage.

Office head Ahmad Riyadi said Wednesday that the 35-year-old woman, a resident of Matraman district in East Jakarta, was nabbed Saturday when she was about to board a plane to Palembang, South Sumatra.

""The scanning monitor caught unidentified objects wrapped in three plastic bags belonging to the passenger. Test results showed the packages were filled with pills that contain psychotropic substances,"" he said.

The suspect has been handed over to the police for further investigation.

The officers also confiscated two trucks of smuggled imported textiles valued at Rp 3 billion.

Ahmad said that the goods, belonging to a private company in Jatiuwung, Tangerang municipality, were kept in Bandara Mas warehousing complex, near the airport.

""If the textiles entered the market, they could cause losses to the state and hurt the country's small and medium businesses,"" he added. -- JP
