JAKARTA: The leadership of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) briefed executives of state-owned companies Thursday about its policy of prohibiting officials from giving and receiving gifts at Idul Fitri.

Executives from state-owned firms, including state oil company Pertamina director Ari Sumarno, the president of social security company Jamsostek, Iwan Pondjowinoto, and director of state logistics agency (Bulog), Widjanarko Puspoyo, were present during the briefing, which was given by KPK chairman Taufiequrrachman Ruki and deputy chairman Tumpak Hatorangan Panggabean.

""I know that exchanging gifts is part of the effort to maintain good relationships, especially during Idul Fitri and Christmas. But I think we should stop it,"" Tumpak told the executives.

The KPK has issued a circular banning state officials from exchanging gifts, no matter what the occasion. -- JP
