JAKARTA: The House of Representatives and the government agreed Monday to give priority to the deliberation of 30 bills for 2007.

Among the bills on the priority list are amendments to the Criminal Code, a bill on state intelligence, a bill on political parties and general elections, a bill on military deployment and amendments to the Judicial Commission.

The House and the government have also agreed to continue the deliberation of bills that were not completed in 2006 such as the pornography bill and a bill on military tribunals.

The House's sluggish performance has resulted in a massive backlog of bills waiting to be deliberated.

Of the 47 bills it expected to finish in 2006, the House thus far has managed to pass only four.

For the 2005-2009 sitting period, the House has to work on the deliberation of 284 bills. -- JP
