Courier leads police to drug dealer

JAKARTA: The Jakarta Police arrested an alleged drug dealer last week who employed a construction worker as his courier.

The courier, Sodik, was arrested Thursday night with 6.9 grams of crystal methamphetamine in his pocket worth Rp 10 million (about US$1,000).

Sodik told the police that he took orders from Daswirin, alias Dodi, to deliver the drugs to buyers. He said that Dodi paid him Rp 100,000 for each delivery.

The information led the police to Dodi's hangout in Kota, West Jakarta, and to his arrest.

The police found some 4.6 grams of marijuana, 0.8 grams of crystal methamphetamine and 1.2 grams of heroin in Dodi's possession.

Also on Thursday night, the drug squad arrested Cici Gantini, 30, in the parking lot of a discotheque in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, for trying to sell ecstasy pills to visitors.

The police suspect that Cici sells ecstasy to visitors of various clubs in North Jakarta.

The police confiscated five pills from her.

Jakarta Police drug squad head Sr. Comr. Arman Depari said Friday detectives were still questioning the suspects to uncover bigger syndicates. -- JP
