Basketball tourney planned for kids

JAKARTA: Indonesia Muda basketball club will host U-14, U-16 and U-18 national basketball championships from Nov. 12-19 at Soemantri Brodjonegoro sports hall in Kuningan, South Jakarta.

""The championships should have been held every two years but the Indonesian Basketball Association (Perbasi) could not do it the last three years partly due to the tight event calendar,"" IM chairman Anggito Abimanyu said Tuesday.

He said teams from nine provinces, including Papua and East Kalimantan, would compete in the event.

""Perbasi will use the opportunity to pick some of the top performers in the U-18 group to play for the national team at Asia's FIBA championship in Singapore in December and in Thailand sometime in January next year,"" said Perbasi's human resources and training division head, Julisa Rastafari. -- JP
