National exam moves to April

JAKARTA: The Education Ministry said Wednesday that the nationwide final examination for secondary school students would take place in April 2007.
National Education Minister Bambang Sudibyo said the ministry would hold the exam a month earlier than the usual May.
Bambang told members of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) there was too much going on in May, given the Labor Day holiday and other historical commemorations that usually attract large crowds.
The government has been under fire for its insistence on holding the national exam. Critics argue it encourages cheating. -- JP
