KLATEN: The Central Java administration will provide Rp 52.055 billion in cash aid to residents whose homes suffered minor damage in the May 27 earthquake.
Data show that 104,111 families in the province were affected by the quake. Each family will receive Rp 500,000 from the aid. Governor Mardiyanto will symbolically hand over the money at Pasung village in Wedi subdistrict.
Of the total aid, Rp 48.1 billion will be channeled to victims in Klaten. The rest will be distributed among residents in Boyolali, Sukoharjo, Karanganyar, Magelang, Wonogiri, Purworejo and Temanggung.
""The aid is expected to be an incentive toward rebuilding their homes. This aid should not be considered compensation for the damage, but a token of the administration's concern for the victims,"" Mardiyanto said.
The governor hopes all of the money will reach intended recipients. ""There shouldn't be any leakage, because we have already set aside money for operational expenses.""
Residents whose homes were heavily damaged or totally destroyed in the quake will receive aid from the national budget. --JP
