Local 'Playboy' editor on trial

JAKARTA: Erwin Arnada, the chief editor of the local version of men's magazine Playboy, appeared Thursday at the South Jakarta District Court to face charges of publishing indecent materials.

Prosecutor Resni Muchtar said in the indictment that Erwin, 42, faced a maximum jail term of 32 months if found guilty.

In the 15-page indictment, Erwin was accused of publishing indecent pictures and making a living from the publication of indecent materials.

The prosecutor said that the crime was committed together with local Playboy license holders, Ponti Carolus Pondian and Okke Gania, who will be tried separately.

The trial was adjourned until Dec. 14 to hear witnesses' testimonies.

Although the key managers are on trial, the magazine is still in circulation and continues to be published. In its December issue, the magazine featured Isyane Angelita as its cover girl. Like its previous editions, there were no nude pictures in the issue. -- JP
