JAKARTA: Two men assuming the identity of police detectives were caught late Wednesday attempting to rob a motorcyclist on Jl. Arteri Permata Hijau in South Jakarta.

An officer with the Kebayoran Lama Police, First Insp. Sujarwo, on Thursday identified the suspects as Puji Sujono, 25, and Rohadi, 25.

Just before midnight, the two suspects pulled over motorcyclist 19-year-old Aryo Pratomo for an illegal U-turn.

Introducing themselves as detectives with the South Jakarta Police, the suspects told Aryo to hand over his driver's license, vehicle documents, motorcycle and the Rp 200,000 (about US$20) in cash he had in his wallet.

""The victim was then told he could go,"" Sujarwo said.

Before the victim left, a patrolling police car passed by and Aryo asked for help.

Police then brought the three to a nearby police station for questioning. --JP
