Domestic electronic sales are predicted to increase only by a sluggish 8 to 10 percent on average next year, because the people's purchasing power has yet to recover from the fuel price increases of 2005.
Electronic Traders Club spokesman Hindrata said even though demand for upper-segment products, such as LCD TVs, bio-technology refrigerators and two-door refrigerators, had risen by 300 percent, middle- to lower-segment products accounted for more sales.
""The sales of middle-upper segment products were lower in quantity compared to the sales of middle-lower products, so that segment contributed marginally to the growth of sales,"" Hindrata said last week as quoted by Antara.
He added that there would still be many obstacles to increasing electronic sales in 2007 considering the public's low purchasing power and the high prices of electricity and fuel.
From January to November 2006, sales of all kinds of electronic products were lower compared to the same period of last year with the most pronounced decrease in sales in air-conditioners, which dropped 22 percent from 697,113 to 544,084 units. (05)
