JAKARTA: Police confiscated 62 gaming machines Thursday in a raid on a gambling den in Kalijodo, North Jakarta, Detikcom news website reported Friday.

Fifty police officers stormed the three-story building, catching card dealer Arysad, 26, with a Rp 100,000 note in his hand.

Police said all the other gamblers and dealers, including the owners of the illegal business, had left the building when they arrived.

Arsyad, a father of three, told police he had been in the business for two months, making Rp 1 million on a good night.

It was the second time in a week police had raided gambling dens in Kalijodo. On Wednesday, they seized 50 gaming machines from another gambling den, but the machine operators and the gambling den's owners also gave them the slip.

""We have targeting this area for a long time. Lots of residents have filed complaints about the gambling dens,"" said Adj. Comr. Suryadi, the deputy chief of the North Jakarta Police's general crime unit. -- JP
