JAKARTA: Vendors evicted from Pedongkelan market in North Jakarta are dissatisfied with their new location, Detik.com news website reported Monday.
The vendors said the relocation site provided by the city administration was not strategic and a third of the size of the previous site. Moreover, there was no legal documentation of the lease agreement or ownership deeds.
The 3,500-square-meter site is situated on state land that belongs to the Indonesian Navy.
""We only get less than four square meters each and no kiosk ownership deed ... we are not sure how long they will let us stay here,"" said a vendor, Subur.
Suryantika Sinaga, who heads North Jakarta's small-scale entrepreneurs agency, said the relocation site was the best alternative.
""If they want more land, they should leave Jakarta. They should thank us for giving them a place because, for all this time, they have been occupying someone else's land."" -- JP
