Indonesia's top bowlers will be competing in the State Minister for Youth and Sports Affairs national bowling championships at the Senayan bowling lanes in Central Jakarta, from Feb. 2 to 4.

Among those scheduled to take part in the event are Asian Games gold and silver medalists Ryan Leonard Lalisang and Putty Insavilla Armein.

Ryan and Putty, who are preparing for the 2007 SEA Games in Bangkok, Thailand, in December, will compete in the Masters class of the championships.

Ryan will be defending his title, while in the women's division Go Lily Suhaimi will be back to defend her title.

""More than 1,700 bowlers from across the country have been participating in the championships since the qualifying rounds began,"" said organizing committee chairman Onky Priyongko.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Affairs Adhyaksa Dault hopes the tournament will help local bowlers improve their skills.

""I promise to double the total prize money for next year's championship to Rp 600 million in order to encourage bowlers to prepare for the competition,"" Adhyaksa said.

Organizers of this year's event have prepared Rp 276 million in prize money.
