JAKARTA: A delegation of the German Parliament is visiting Indonesia from Monday to Friday in an effort to enhance relations between the two countries as well as ties between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the European Union (EU).

The German embassy in Jakarta said the group, which was led by ASEAN Parliamentary Group chairman Dr. Klaus Lippold, held talks with Indonesian House of Representatives speaker Agung Laksono, officials from the Foreign Ministry and Justice and Human Rights Ministry and ASEAN secretary general Ong Keng Yong.

""The topics of discussion included the intensification of development and economic cooperation between both countries, as well as the interfaith dialog and human rights issues,"" the embassy said in a statement.

Marking the 30th Anniversary of EU-ASEAN relations, the embassy added, the main focus of the visit was also on the strengthening of both groupings' relations.

""These relations will gain new impetus by the launch of the EU-ASEAN Joint Strategy for Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation and a plan of action, both to be adopted at the forthcoming EU-ASEAN ministerial meeting in Nuremberg, Germany, in March,"" the embassy said.--JP
