TANGERANG: A special committee set up by the Banten provincial legislative council to prepare for the establishment of a new municipality in the southern part of Tangerang regency will not witness the fruits of its labor.

The committee was dismissed by the council after its report had been approved late last month.

The document is yet to receive endorsement from the Home Ministry.

The new municipality, to be named South Tangerang, will embrace the districts of Ciputat, Pamulang, Serpong, Cisauk and Pondok Aren.

Regent Ismet Iskandar regretted the ""premature"" dismissal.

""The committee should not have been dismissed until the new municipality was established. The committee should supervise the whole process.""

However, former chairman of the committee Dahyat Tunggara said that the committee had finished its work, and the administration should establish another team to monitor the establishment of the new municipality.

The current Ciputat district office on Jl. Maruga in Serua Indah subdistrict will become the central administration office for South Tangerang. -- JP
