TANGERANG: Banten prosecutors disclosed that an official at the provincial administration had been implicated in a Rp 1.5 billion graft case after questioning the main suspect Thursday.
Babul Koihir, special crimes assistant at the Banten Prosecutor's Office, said the official, Nandang Suryana, who is the head of a department at the provincial administration, signed 10 receipts for cash funds from the provincial budget for the Banten councilors to carry out studies on producing bylaws,"" he said.
The office had earlier named as a suspect Iwan Rosadi -- a councilor from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, who was arrested in January along with 13 other former councilors for his involvement in a Rp 14 billion graft case.
Babul said councilor Iwan had proposed the funding and Nandang signed the cash disbursement.
Separately, Nandang acknowledged his involvement in preparing the bylaws but denied having signed the papers to disburse the funds.
""I have no knowledge about how the funds were used and I did not sign the receipts. Prosecutors must be able to prove the signatures on the receipts are mine,"" he said.
However, Nandang said he would abide by the legal process and appear before prosecutors if he was summoned for questioning. --JP
