JAKARTA: The immigration bill currently being drafted is expected to be followed up with more comprehensive technical regulations once it is endorsed as a new law, a mixed-marriages organization said Tuesday.
""The government should pass regulations that will duly support the new law. In the past, the government would prepare an appropriate law but fail to follow it through with solid technical regulations,"" Enngi Holt of Melati told The Jakarta Post.
Holt added that the government should more intensely involve other agencies such as the Home Ministry and the Directorate General of Taxation in formulating the bill.
""It would be better for us to wait a little longer for a new immigration law, so that we can anticipate something more comprehensive,"" she said.
She said Melati would seek a session with the House of Representatives' Commission III and the Directorate General of Immigration to discuss the contents of the immigration bill.
Melati members are particularly eager for the new law to allow Indonesian women married to foreigners to become sponsors for their adult children and husbands. (JP/10)
