JAKARTA: The body of a newborn baby girl was found floating in the swimming pool of an empty house in Pondok Indah, South Jakarta, on Wednesday.
Pool cleaner Engkos Kosasih, 32, who was about to begin cleaning the pool at around 10.30 a.m., said he was shocked to find the baby floating face down with its umbilical cord still attached, according to news portal Tempointeraktif.com.
""I saw the baby was already bloated and had turned blue,"" he said.
First Insp. Suwarjo, the chief detective at the South Jakarta precinct's Kebayoran Lama station, said police were investigating the case.
""We're gathering information from witnesses,"" he said.
Police said they suspected the baby was thrown into the 20 square meter pool from outside the house.
Real estate agent Irawan said the house had been vacant for five months. It was up for rent.
He said that the house was last visited at around 5 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon by prospective tenants.
""The baby must have been thrown in there between that night and the next morning,"" he said. --JP
