Strong quake hits Aceh

BANDA ACEH, Aceh: An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale sent residents in Banda Aceh and Pidie fleeing from homes and buildings Friday. However, there have been no reports of casualties or damage.
""The quake was very strong, causing us to panic,"" Pidie resident Nuraini told The Jakarta Post.
According to the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency in Banda Aceh, the quake took place at 3:02 p.m. The epicenter was at a depth of 33 kilometers, about 73 km southwest of Banda Aceh. -- JP
