YOGYAKARTA: In order to improve public health in Yogyakarta, the city's administration has announced it will provide free heath care services to 86,900 economically disadvantaged people in the city, an official said.
Funds to finance the health services, to be provided at community health centers and in public hospitals, will be taken from the 2007 regional budget, Kusminatun from the Yogyakarta Health Office said Thursday.
The 86,900 people to be eligible for heath care services will include over 68,000 poor residents in the city, 8,000 civil servants and over 3,000 members of neighborhood committees and village offices, Kusminatun said.
Funds required to carry out the project are expected to reach Rp 6 billion (approximately US$666,000).
""We are still verifying data on the number of people to be eligible for these services. The final number is predicted to increase by 40,000 to 50,000,"" she added. -- JP
