A 4-year-old boy was thrown and beaten by his father as his parents quarreled Thursday afternoon in their rented house in the area of Sukarasa in Tangerang.
The boy, Matsoni, sustained injuries to both legs and bruising to his temple.
Ika Rahayu, the family's neighbor, who happened to witness the incident, said Matsoni was sent by his father, Matlias, to search for his younger sibling.
Matsoni's 3-year-old brother Yanto was among the crowd watching a private television crew interview Tosbiroh, a woman whose daughter was recently set on fire by her husband. The family's house was nearby to Matsoni's.
Ika told Tempointeraktif.com on Saturday she saw Matsoni ask his brother to go home with him, but that Yanto refused to leave the filming. Matsoni returned home empty-handed.
""When he (Matsoni) got home, his father went crazy and hit him just like that. Matlias was quarreling with his wife at that time,"" she said.
The neighbors rushed to a nearby police station to report the incident. Police then came to fetch Matlias for questioning under allegations of domestic violence.
Chief of the Tangerang Police criminal unit, Comr. Suyudi Ario Seto, confirmed the arrest and said Matlias was still detained pending further investigation.
""We will detain him until we complete the questioning,"" he said. -- JP
