Officer dies in traffic accident

TANGERANG: A police officer died in a motorcycle accident in Tangerang on Monday.

Second Brig. Arman Irsan, 27, was hit by a motorcycle after falling off his bike in a collision with another motorcycle moments earlier.

Jakarta Police Traffic Management Center (TMC) officer Second Brig. Heri said the pile-up took place in front of bakso store Pondok Baso Mas Gepeng.

Accidents involving motorcycles are the most common form of traffic accident in the city. According to data from the Central Statistics Agency, of 4,453 traffic accidents in 2005, some 3,499 involved motorcycles.

A 2005 survery put the number of motorcycles in Jakarta at 4.6 million. --JP
