Bikes pile up in peak hour crash

JAKARTA: A Metromini bus serving the Tanah Abang-Dukuh Atas-Pasar Minggu route rammed into several motorcycles and a minivan on Jl. Letjen MT Haryono, South Jakarta, early Monday.

""The Metromini was out of control when it hit the front of the minivan before crashing into several motorcycles from behind. At least three motorcycle drivers hit the ground,"" said Dewanti Lestari, a passenger of the ill-fated bus.

Dewanti said the driver had been driving recklessly and attempting to overtake other Metromini buses, since she boarded the bus in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta.

No one in the Metromini was injured in the accident, although the driver was attacked by several motorists after the crash.

At least three motorcyclists, one of them unconscious, were taken to hospital.

The police quickly arrived on the scene to manage the traffic and take away the beaten driver. -- JP
