One loss, one win for Irene

JAKARTA: Indonesia's female International Chess Master Irene Kharisma (Elo rating 2207) bowed out to Jana Krivec of Slovenia (2341) in the 32nd move during their eighth round meet at the Brainy Beauties Electric Women Stars Cup on Monday.

But she managed to win the ninth round after beating compatriot Evi Lindiawati in the 40th move later the day.

The morning defeat has hampered Irene's goal to earn seven points from 10 rounds of the event, which she needs in order to reach her Grand Master average. So far, Irene has managed 5.5 points from nine rounds.

Women Grand Master Regina Pokorna of Slovakia (2343) leads with 6 points followed by Krivec and Irene with 5.5 points. Next in the standings is Anastasia Karlovich of Ukraine (2266) and Natalia Zdebska of Ukraine (2335) with 4.5 points and Evi with 1.

The final round is set for Tuesday. -- JP
