This is in response to your May 25 article, House calls President over Iran resolution.
The issue of nuclear enrichment is of great importance, especially when it is for military purposes. Strategically speaking, it is the concern of every country of the world, and not only the Western (U.S. and EU) or the Middle and Far Eastern countries.
Two reasons can explain the Indonesia's support for the resolution imposing sanctions on Iran for its nuclear program:
Firstly, it is a matter of security and peace on the world ""chessboard"". Secondly, Indonesia -- like Iran -- has adopted the Treaty on Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, and has planned to increase its nuclear production capacity in the coming decade.
Still, the decision of the House of Representatives to ask President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to a special plenary session in June to explain Indonesia's decision was also to be expected.
Indeed, as the largest Muslim population in the world, Indonesia has some explaining to do. Muslim organizations insist the move has ruined the good relationship between the two countries.
There is no doubt about the goodwill of the government, as there is no doubt about the exaggeration of the public concerning the impact on Iran-Indonesia ties. But finally, what has to be kept in mind is the idea that Indonesia is definitely not under the heel of the world powers.
