Five arrested for armed robberies

JAKARTA: The Jakarta Police have arrested five suspects of a series of armed robberies in Greater Jakarta and West Java, according to a release Monday.
The men, identified as Binsar Harianja, Hendriansyah, Johar, Dedi Gunawan and Mulyadi, were arrested in different places last week.
Police said they drove a rented car around Jakarta, Tangerang and Bandung to find empty houses to rob. They then broke into the house using a crowbar and a screwdriver. If the house was not empty, they threatened the residents with a gun or a knife.
They took away electronic goods, jewelry and other valuables, according to the release.
The police have confiscated a gun, a toy pistol, a knife and several other weapons as evidence. -- JP
