Abused wife tries to kill herself

JAKARTA: A 25-year-old housewife attempted to end her life by drinking insecticide Saturday, after allegedly being assaulted by her husband at their house in Pademangan, North Jakarta.
Endang was rushed to Koja Hospital by neighbors who found her in critical condition after drinking a cup of insecticide.
She regained consciousness after receiving treatment at the hospital.
Endang said she attempted suicide because she could no longer take the abuse from her husband.
She said her husband, aged 26, came home drunk Saturday morning, threw up and ordered Endang to clean up the mess.
""He yelled at me when I told him to clean it up himself. He slapped me across the face several times,"" the mother of two said.
She drank the insecticide after the fight at around 8 a.m.
""I could not help it but now I regret it. My poor children,"" she said as quoted by Tempointeraktif. --JP
