On Jakarta Fair

The Jakarta Post ,  Jakarta   |  Wed, 07/18/2007 11:20 AM  |  Opinion

With regard to your article, ""Jakarta Fair evolves into modern trade exhibition and family entertainment"" (The Jakarta Post, July 13, p. 3), I would like to express my personal opinion.

The organization of this year's fair is better than last year. But I will criticize it for opening at 3 p.m. during the school holidays.

I saw mothers with crying children because they were tired and hungry after waiting for hours to get in. Many visitors, who came from out of town, also had to return to their buses.

Meanwhile, the opening of ticket booths was also delayed for some 20 minutes because the attendants had to distribute ticket booklets and do other things.

I think visitors should be provided with maps because the fairground covers a large area. Signs should be placed at regular intervals with arrows pointing to exits, exhibition halls and toilet facilities.

I saw women who could not find toilet facilities for their children.

The fair may have been able to boost product sales, but the organizers also have to provide visitors, including children, with facilities to enjoy their school holidays.

Next year, I suggest the fair open at 10 a.m. or midday, particularly during the school holidays.
