Obituary: Popular comedian and singer

Comedian Totok Asmuni (shown in 1999 file photo) , of the popular Srimulat Group, passed away at Rekso Waluyo Hospital in Mojokerto, East Java, at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. He was 76.

There was no official statement regarding the cause of death. Asmuni had suffered from heart and kidney problems in the past.

Asmuni's daughter, Tri, said her father was rushed to the hospital's ICU 15 days ago, after taking the wrong medicine for a toothache.

She said her father's body was taken to his house on Jl. Jati Pasar Trowulan in Mojokerto, East Java.

""Bapak will be buried tomorrow (Sunday) here,"" Tri told Antara, referring to Asmuni's home village of Diwek in Jombang regency.

Asmuni, who was known for his Charlie Chaplin toothbrush moustache, is survived by wife Witantina and daughter.

Asmuni was a singer prior to joining Srimulat in 1976.

He also owned two restaurants that bear his name. One is located at his residence in Slipi, West Jakarta, and the other in Mojokerto.
