For many people, a computer is an inseparable part of their lives, and a mobile notebook or tablet PC means they can work, communicate and play while on the move.
Japan's Fujitsu PC Asia Pacific Ltd, a premium computer producer, has seized this concept in the LifeBook Summer Series, launched on July 18 at the Nikko Hotel, Central Jakarta.
Touted as the world's smallest notebook -- also called the Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC) -- combines the functions of notebook, tablet PC and a palm-held PDA.
""It's a computer, not a PDA. PDAs have limited capacity while the LifeBook U1010 has a relatively unlimited capacity like a computer, but it fits in your palm,"" Nexcomtech director Joseph said on the sidelines of the launch.
Nexcomtech is Fujitsu's authorized distributor in Indonesia.
The compact gadget, which weighs just 610 grams, has a palm-resistant 5.6-inch touch screen that allows your finger to do the walking -- no need for a stylus.
The LifeBook U1010 can handle multiple operational possibilities, such as watching movies and listening to music, viewing and editing documents, video conferencing as well as surfing the Internet -- all in the palm of your hand.
The small notebook is also packed with security features that guarantee the confidentiality of information. Through its Trusted Platform Module and the 2-level BIOS Lock, users can save their documents from prying eyes.
The LifeBook is also equipped with a fingerprint sensor, which allows users to encrypt sensitive files with a swipe of their fingertips.
As a mobile device, the UMPC has the lowest rate of power consumption due to the application of Intel's latest Ultra Mobile Platform 2007. The new platform uses 25 percent less power than the 2006 platform, providing battery life that extends beyond most devices.
With all these distinctive functions, Joseph said Nexcomtech was targeting young professionals, mobile executives and tech lovers with the LifeBook, priced US$1,358.
Also on Wednesday, Fujitsu launched three other LifeBook models: the S640, E8410, A6030 and T4220.
""Computers, including notebooks, are now a part of our life. The term 'life' also means that our batteries last longer than others,"" said Sanny Yoeliawan, marketing communications executive at Fujitsu Asia Pacific.
