JAKARTA: The position of Chief of the Pattimura Regional Military Command remains vacant after Maj. Gen. Sudarmaidy Subandi was removed from the post following the South Maluku Republic (RMS) flag-waving incident during President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's visit to Maluku last month.
""We're still seeking a suitable date for the handover ceremony for the post of Pattimura Regional Military Commander,"" Army Chief of Staff Gen. Djoko Santoso said after opening an Army coordinative meeting here, as quoted by the detik.com news portal Tuesday.
Indonesian Military (TNI) chief Marshall Djoko Suyanto issued a decree July 13 ordering the replacement of Sudarmaidy by Maj. Gen. Rasyid Qurnuen Aquary, then Commander of the Army's Special Forces (Kopassus), following the incident June 29 in Ambon.
Gen. Santoso said Army headquarters was yet to decide on a replacement for the post.
""We have no names for the post yet and we are yet to set a meeting about it. It will be decided next month at the latest,"" he said.
Rumors are rife that Rasyid will be replaced by a 1975-1976 graduate of the Military Academy who has previously served in the Special Forces. -- JP
