JAKARTA: Medan and Denpasar have joined the Citi Success Fund program for high school teachers, now in its fifth year.

They join Greater Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang and Surabaya in the program.

Citi Success Fund targets teachers with creative and unique ideas for passing on knowledge to students.

High school teachers must submit proposals on selected topics -- this year's are getting students more involved in the community and increasing their ability to absorb knowledge -- no later than Aug. 28.

A panel of judges from media outlets will select 100 winners, who will each receive Rp 5 million (US$550). The money is to be used to implement the proposals.

The judges will then select the 10 best ideas, with each winner receiving another Rp 5 million and their schools Rp 10 million.

""We are committed to continuing this program, which is in its fifth year,"" the country corporate head of Citi Indonesia, Ditta Amahorseya, said Thursday.""

Citi Success Fund -- a joint project with Hope Foundation -- has received 2,307 proposals since the program was first launched in 2003. A total of 390 teachers have received money from the program. -- JP
