JAKARTA: The Attorney General's Office has named former industry minister AR Soehoed a suspect in the alleged misappropriation of Asahan Authority funds between 1988 and 1998.

Director of investigations at the Office of the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes, M. Salim, said Wednesday Soehoed had used the funds for personal purposes.

""We have asked him to hand over some documents related to Asahan Authority,"" said Salim.

He said the AGO had confiscated a total of 56 hectares of land in North Sumatra belonging to Asahan Authority, which was established in 1976 to handle a hydroelectric dam and aluminum smelter in Asahan, North Sumatra.

The Development Finance Comptroller is currently determining state losses as a result of the case, Salim said. -- JP
