Bali gets Rp 1b grant for education

DENPASAR : Bali province has received a special award called Widyakrama from President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono for its success in improving education quality on the island and implementing a nine-year compulsory education program.
In addition to Bali, DKI Jakarta and Yogyakarta also received similar awards and Rp 1 billion (us$110,000) in grants for each province.
According to I Ketut Wija, head of Bali's education office, the money would be used to widen access to education services, particularly in remote areas.
Part of the money would subsidies book and educational tools and various up-grading activities involving teachers and school staff. -- JP
