BOGOR: Concerned about quality and safety failures, Bogor regency's Industrial, Trade and Cooperatives Agency on Tuesday inspected shops selling food and cosmetics in the city.

""The inspection focuses on both local goods and those made in China. Call it 'shock treatment',"" agency head Ibrahim Arifin said as quoted by Antara.

The agency confiscated food products and cosmetics that had not been approved for sale in the country by the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency.

""The raid (Tuesday) is just the start. We will continue with our inspections to stop people using or consuming unsafe products,"" Ibrahim said, adding that inspections had also been carried out long before the media reports of formaldehyde-laced candies and dangerous toys coming from China. --JP
