JAKARTA: Two construction workers were killed Thursday when the scaffolding they were standing on at the Kelapa Gading Square apartment in North Jakarta collapsed.
The incident occurred at around 9 a.m. when Tusar, 24, and Iskan, 25, were working on tower C. Witnesses said the laborers were working on separate floors but standing on the same scaffolding. Tusar, who was on the 31st floor, plunged 130 meters to the ground. Iksan fell from the 16th floor.
News portal Tempointeraktif.com quoted a bystander, Eko, who witnessed the accident, as saying the scaffolding suddenly collapsed and the two workers fell on to a pavilion on the sixth floor. Both died instantly at the scene.
""Neither of them were wearing safety harnesses,"" Eko said. --JP
