JAKARTA: The Jakarta Police have questioned 90 witnesses over the alleged smuggling of 29,414 cellular phones that were confiscated last month.

""The 90 witnesses include workers in the warehouse (where the cell phones were found) and cell-phone retailers in Roxy (West Jakarta),"" city police spokesman Sr. Comr. I Ketut Untung Yoga Ana said Thursday.

All of the Samsung cell phones were confiscated on July 13 at a warehouse owned by the Samsung cell-phone distributor in Indonesia, PT S Mobile.

The warehouse is located in the Dunia Express Warehousing area on Jl. Agung Karya, Sunter, North Jakarta.

According to Yoga, several phone vendors had been questioned as there were indications that some of the products from the warehouse had already found their way onto the market.

""However, most of the witnesses said their products were documented,"" he added.

The police have yet to name any suspect. ""Hopefully, before long, we will be able to charge them,"" Yoga said. -- JP
