TANGERANG: After coming to a halt almost two years ago, the building of a road linking Serpong with Tigaraksa has resumed, an official says.
Akip Syamsudin of the Public Works Agency said the first phase of the project, constituting some 35 percent of the 31-kilometer long road, was finished.
Construction began in 2005. Akip said the completion date had been pushed back to November.
""We entered the second phase of the project last week. We could only resume it after receiving funds from the administration,"" he said.
Tigaraksa is the capital city of Tangerang regency.
The regency administration has allocated Rp 24.5 billion from its 2007 budget to finance the project.
The new road, which starts from an intersection near the Serpong Science and Technology Development Center (Puspitek), will also pass Ciputat, South Jakarta, and the districts of Pamulang, Serpong, Cisauk, Setu, Jambe, Curug, Legok and Panongan.
The road will reduce the traveling time between Serpong and Tigaraksa. At present the only option is to take the congested Jakarta-Merak turnpike.
Construction team head Muhadi said progress on the road was good.
""We hope it's finished before November."" -- JP
