INDONESIA: Former Taiwanese prime minister Frank Chang-ting Hsieh arrived in Jakarta on Monday to promote his presidential candidacy in Indonesia.
Hsieh, a presidential candidate from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) running in the 2008 election, is visiting Indonesia in a personal capacity.
""He (Hsieh) came here to promote his candidature among Taiwanese people living in Indonesia. It is a private visit,"" a Taiwanese citizen told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday on the condition of anonymity.
Hsieh will run against KMT party leader Ma Ying-Jeou in the election.
Aside from meeting with members of the Taiwanese community in Indonesia, Hsieh also met with members of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
During his two-day stay in Jakarta, Hsieh reiterated his four big firsts idea, which states ""Taiwan first, culture first, environment first, and the underprivileged first"", as part of his so-called Love and Trust campaign.
