JAKARTA: The Indonesian and Japanese Red Cross organizations have reaffirmed their commitment to building another 1,062 houses for the tsunami victims in the provincial capital of Nanggroe Aceh Darusslam, Banda Aceh.

""The houses will be for people in West Aceh regency (437 units) and Simeulue Island (625),"" spokeswoman for the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC), Vina Agustina, said as quoted Sunday by Antara.

She said the houses, which are quake-resistant, would be built in 17 villages in Salang and Central Simeulue districts.

The earthquake-triggered tsunami that hit Aceh and Nias in North Sumatra on Dec. 26, 2004, killed 110,229 people and destroyed 120,000 homes.-- JP
