JAKARTA: Indonesian Navy's KRI Arung Samudra, which last week became stranded during bad weather off Queensland, Australia, would be towed to Brisbane port later this week, an Indonesian official said Monday.
""An assessment (of the ship) is underway,"" Col Eden Gunawan, Navy attache with the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra told Antara.
""Weather conditions are decisive although the situation has improved.
""The team tasked to tow the ship will possibly be ready for action by Aug. 29 or 30.""
He said sea water had spilled onto the ship but the job of pumping the water out had been completed Sunday and no leaks were found.
Indonesian Embassy official Meri Binsar Simorangkir said the they were coordinating with a company in Brisbane to tow the stranded ship.
""Hopefully, the ship will be in Brisbane port later this week,"" she said.-- JP
