MEDAN, North Sumatra: In line with its growing number of students, the state University of North Sumatra (USU) is set to use 10,300 hectares-worth of new grounds for various faculties, thanks to the provincial administration.
One new plot in Mandailing Natal regency spans 10,000 ha, while one in Deli Serdang regency measures 300 ha.
USU rector Chairuddin P. Lubis said both sites, especially the one in Bekala, would be used in the near future.
Chairuddin said a number of schools at the Padang Bulan campus will move to the new site in Bekala, including agricultural, technical and forestry schools.
The USU campus in Mandailing Natal will be used as a training center, he said.
Chairuddin said some 30,600 students were currently studying at the university and that 563 were foreign students.
""The present campus only measures 100 hectares, while there are 30,600 students studying here,"" he said.
""We estimate there would be 64,000 students studying here by 2020.
""So, we must extend the area for studies."" -- JP
